Who is eligible for Campus Connections Aotearoa?
Students wishing to take part in CC-A must be enrolled in study at the University of Auckland. There are three service learning courses integrated into the CC-A programme, which are open to some undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes. See SOCYOUTH 300 , EDUC 747 and PROFCOUN 700 for more information about qualifying programmes. Fieldwork placement opportunities are also available in the first semester for third year BSW students and in the second semester for first year MSWP students. Students completing post-graduate counselling programmes may also apply to complete clinical hours within Campus Connections. Find out about the application and enrolment process.
Do students need to have previous mentoring or youth work experience?
Previous experience is desirable but not required. Students undergo training prior to and during the programme and are fully supervised by qualified and experienced staff during mentoring sessions.
What is expected of students involved in Campus Connection Aotearoa?
Campus Connections Aotearoa mentors are expected to:
- Commit to full attendance, including pre-training, classes and most importantly mentoring sessions.
- Come prepared for each session by completing the required readings, planning for the work they will do with our young people and familiarising themselves with planned session activities.
- Contribute to a pro social, youth-friendly environment by modelling and reinforcing CC-A values and expectations and maintaining an open and respectful attitude toward diverse viewpoints and perspectives.

Who are the youth participants?
The young people who take part in Campus Connections are aged between 13-16 years. All of the youth are enrolled in Alternative Education in the Auckland region and are transported to CC-A by their AE tutors.
Where does Campus Connections Aotearoa take place?
CC-A mentoring sessions take place at the University of Auckland Epsom Campus located at 74 Epsom Avenue Auckland. Throughout the programme we utilise different rooms and spaces as appropriate to the different activities we run for the young people involved.
What is the Campus Connections Aotearoa daily schedule?
Campus Connections Aotearoa mentoring sessions occur on Thursdays throughout each week of the semester. We have a set daily schedule that starts when the youth arrive at 10.00am each week.
What are the key dates for Campus Connections 2022?
The dates for Semester 1 include two compulsory pre-training days on March 3rd and 10th from 9am – 5pm. Lectures and mentoring sessions run from March 17th – June 2nd.
The dates for Semester 2 include two compulsory pre-training days on July 21st and 28th 9am – 5pm. Lectures and mentoring sessions run from August 4th – October 20th, including the university mid-semester break (September 1st & 8th) and excluding Thursdays during the school holidays (October 6th & 13th).
Students from both semesters are strongly encouraged to attend the programme graduation event on October 20th 2022.
